A mild misspelled thought: Job a Hero?

One of my personal biblical heroes is Job from the book of Job the reason being that in the midst of the biggest tragedy of his life being the loss of his children, his standing in the community and all of his Worldly possessions he still refused to curse God even when his wife said , “Why do you still trust God? Why don’t you curse him and die?” Job 2:9 CEV

he stood firm in his faith. The problem with the Western world today is that we have become our own gods when we’re sick we go to the doctors when we’re starving we go to the store when we’re bored we turn on the TV even when were depressed we have retail therapy we live a life absent of God.

We live a life so absent of God we have even begun to corrupt the message of Christ with things like the prosperity gospel where we are promised by false teachers and good marketing that if were are good little boys and girls that God will give us a house, children, a full bank account, and full bellies. But if you look at the Bible, God doesn’t promise us earthly wealth, and he doesn’t even really promise us tomorrow. But what God does promises us is that he loves us that he died for our sins and that we are forgiven.

But I’m sure you’re still kind of wondering why Job is one of my personal heroes. Well The sole reason being that in the midst of the biggest tragedy of Job’s life he still refused to curse God or turn away from God entirely. It’s that stern resolution to have faith in God’s character and God’s wisdom that makes Job one of my personal heroes.

Maybe I should add a little more personal context on the reason why job is one my heroes you see I have spent a good part of my life struggling with depression and its jobs stern refusal to give up on God that makes him one of my heroes. in my experience over the years I have noticed two types of faiths one being that when troubles come along the person Grabs harder on to God  their road my not be easy but there is a peace about them and the other is that when troubles come along they do the opposite. Please keep in mind I am not trying to judge anyone I personally Desiree the faith that I can “Keep Calm and Carry On” and trust God.

The bible is chock full of people trusting God during hard times I would go as far as saying that it is a major theme of the bible. For a non-biblical hero or example of this would be Horatio Spafford he wrote the hymn “it is well with my soul” after the tragedy of losing everything he had in the Great Chicago Fire, then losing his daughters when there boat sunk crossing the Atlantic Ocean. He wrote “It is well with my soul”  to paraphrase the hymn it is about trusting God and knowing that he is there for us.

merriam-webster dictionary describes faith as “belief in the existence of God : strong religious feelings or beliefs” while that is a good clinical explanation of faith. I would say faith is a lot more, more dirty, more squishy, I would go as far as to say that faith cannot be described so easily because when you describe faith you make it clinical, you make it sterile. In the gospels of Mark, Mathew, Luke and John,  Jesus Raised the Dead, Healed the sick, feed the thousands with only a few loaves of bread. You see while that sounds impressive there is so much context so much that is missing when you read it. I would have loved to be there and see the expressions on the people’s faces, to hear that praises on their lips
